Phnom Penh - the biggest city in Cambodia

the biggest city in Cambodia , also its wealthiest , Phnom Penh is the cultural , commercial and political centre of the country and is home for more than 1 million of Cambodian of over 14 million .

was there during my end of my obgyn posting , had a very short leave thus i was there only for two days - 13th - 14th December 2013 . travel to there by my self and met up my parents who went there a day earlier , still remember i almost missed my flight as i overslept .

we went there on free and easy as we have our former maid as local guide . i arrived in Phnom Penh in the early morning , and straight away we start our journey to the Choeung Ek Killing Field where located quite a distance from the town by tuk-tuk .

these are the infamous killing field of the Khmer Rouge . Choeung Ek is a series of exhumed mass graves with a stupa at the center filled with skulls of hundreds men , women and children .

inside of the stupa , there are multi layer of well arranged skulls according to gender , age 



provided a system for tourist to listen to the explanation of every spot , simply press according the scene number and the explanation will be playing , multi language can be chosen







after the killing field , we went back to town and visited few shopping centre and had our lunch . one of them are Sovanna Shopping Center .

in the night , we just walk around our hotel area as there are quite lots of pubs and food stalls , and we had our dinner .

Cambodia beer are damn cheap 





next day went and visit the Royal Palace before heading back to Malaysia . the old Royal Palace located in the heart of the city . Royal family doesn't live there anymore , but there are some good temples and beautiful architecture around .

 and here ended my two days one night trip , wish to visit Angkor Wat next time .
